Assistant Governor, People's Bank of China in Beijing

Yi Gang is the assistant governor of the People's Bank of China in Beijing. From 2003 to 2004, he served as the general director of the Bank's Department of Monetary Policy and as secretary-general of the Monetary Policy Committee from 2002 to 2003. Before joining the bank as deputy secretary-general of the Monetary Policy Committee in 1997, Dr. Yi was a professor of economics at Peking University and assistant professor of economics at Indiana University, Bloomington, USA. His numerous articles and academic papers have appeared in publications such as The Journal of Econometrics, the China Economic Review, and Comparative Economic Studies. An author of ten books, he has served as a consultant for the Scandinavian Journal of Statistics, Comparative Economic Studies, Contemporary Policy Issues, and the Journal of Asian Economics. His research areas focus on econometrics, and banking and financial markets in China. Dr. Yi obtained his M.A. and Ph.D. from Indiana University.
