Biography:
Samra FILIPOVIC-HADZIABDIC has long been at the forefront of women’s rights and gender issues in her country. Currently director of the Gender Equality Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo, she also established and directed the Gender Center of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In that role, she developed strategies to mainstream gender issues, designed the center’s programs, drafted and lobbied for the equality law that has since established the state agency for equality, and coordinated the drafting process for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s National Action Plan under the Beijing Declaration. Ms. Filipovic-Hadziabdic has also worked as an adviser to the cabinet of the president of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, implementing the project “Improvement of the Status of Women in Bosnia and Herzegovina.” As legal adviser to the Human Rights Department of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), she worked closely with the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia. Ms. Filipovic-Hadziabdic is an attorney and holds an M.A. in state and international public law from the University of Sarajevo
