Biography:
Lawrence Weschler is the director of the New York Institute for the Humanities at New York University which convened the “Comedies of Fair Use” conference in 2006, and concurrently holds the position of artistic director of the Chicago Humanities Festival. A former staff writer at The New Yorker, he is also a contributing editor to McSweeney´s and the Threepenny Review, curator of the DVD quarterly Wholphin, and art wrangler for the Virginia Quarterly Review. He is an acclaimed author who was shortlisted for both the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award, and his book, “Everything that Rises,” won the latter in 2007 for criticism but has yet to find a publisher abroad despite his insistence on the grounds of fair use of several of the images included in the book. Mr. Weschler is a graduate of Cowell College of the University of California at Santa Cruz.
