Biography:
Kiyoto Ido is the executive director of the Bank of Japan in Tokyo. He is in charge of the Research and Statistics, the Currency Issue, and the Public Relations Department. Before joining the Bank, Mr. Ido served as the director-general of the International Bureau for more than 30 years in the Japanese Ministry of Finance. During his career with the Ministry, Mr. Ido was mainly engaged with international issues. He helped internationalize the Tokyo financial markets and the yen, as well as establishing the Tokyo Offshore Market. In the 1990s, he was involved in the economic development of Asia. During the 1997 to 1998 Asian currency and economic crisis, he cooperated with Asian countries to assist those countries to obtain a thirty billion dollar support package and establish cooperative mechanisms such as Chiang Mai Initiative. Mr. Ido studied mathematics at the Tokyo Institute of Technology and business administration at the Saarland University in Germany.
