Biography:
Joseph DONOVAN assumed responsibilities as principal deputy assistant secretary for the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs at the US Department of State in Washington, DC on September 8, 2009. He is responsible for relations with Japan and Korea, and the East Asian and Pacific Bureau’s Executive Office. Previously, Mr. Donovan served as consul general of the United States of America in Hong Kong. Before arriving in Hong Kong, he was deputy chief of mission at the US Embassy Tokyo and director for the Office of Chinese and Mongolian Affairs in the Bureau of East Asia and Pacific Affairs at the US Department of State. Mr. Donovan has a master's degree in national security affairs from the US Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California; and a bachelor's degree in foreign service from Georgetown University.
