Angela Coulter is Director of Global Initiatives at the Foundation for Informed Medical Decision Making. She is also a Non-Executive Director of the Nuffield Orthopaedic NHS Trust in Oxford, and a Trustee of National Voices. Previous roles included Chief Executive of Picker Institute Europe, Executive Director of Policy and Development at the King's Fund, and Director of the Health Services Research Unit at the University of Oxford.

A social scientist by training, Dr. Coulter has a doctorate in health services research from the University of London. She holds Honorary Fellowships at the Faculty of Public Health and the Royal College of General Practitioners. Angela has published more than 250 research papers and reports and several books including The Autonomous Patient, The European Patient of the Future (with Helen Magee), The Global Challenge of Healthcare Rationing (with Chris Ham) and Hospital Referrals (with Martin Roland). She was the founding editor of Health Expectations, an international peer-reviewed journal on patient and public involvement in health care and health policy. Her latest book, Patient and Public Involvement in Healthcare, is due to be published by Open University Press in 2011.
