Biography:
Fergal Shortall has been head of International Economic Analysis at the Bank of England since March 2011, leading a division advising the Bank's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) on global macroeconomic developments. He is also one of the five-person Secretariat charged with writing the minutes of the MPC's monthly policy meetings. Mr. Shortall joined the Bank of England in 1999, initially working on labour-market and supply-side issues, and then as private secretary to the current deputy governor for Financial Stability, Paul Tucker. Between 2005 and 2010, he held a range of macroeconomic forecasting roles supporting the MPC's Inflation Report projections, initially focusing on the UK economy and leading analysis of the global outlook. Prior to joining the Bank, Mr. Shortall spent two years working on macroeconomic forecasting and energy policy at the Economic and Social Research Institute in Dublin.
