Biography:
Byron Good is professor of medical anthropology in the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine, Harvard Medical School, and professor in the Department of Anthropology, Harvard University. He has conducted research and written widely on issues of culture and mental health (depression, psychosis, panic disorder, PTSD) and led NIH supported training programs on mental health services research in the United States, China, and Indonesia. He has been working in Indonesia for eighteen years carrying out research particularly on early psychosis and supporting programs aimed at developing mental health services in post-conflict/post-tsunami Aceh as well as in Yogyakarta in Java. He has special interest in using research to support building comprehensive mental health services in settings with very limited resources.
