Incoming Chief Executive of the European Banking Federation, Brussels

Wim MIJS is chief executive of the European Banking Association. He studied law at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands, specializing in European and international law. He taught at the Faculty of Law of the University of Leiden until 1990 and worked at the International Court of Arbitration at the Peace Palace in The Hague until 1993. Mr. Mijs then joined ABN AMRO in Amsterdam before moving to Brussels to head up the ABN AMRO EU Liaison Office. He moved back to The Hague in 2002 where he became the head of government affairs for ABN AMRO. From 2001 to 2007, he was chair of the Financial Markets Committee of the European Banking Federation. In 2007 Mr Mijs was appointed chief executive officer of the Dutch Banking Association. In this role, Mr Mijs was chairman of the executive committee of the European Banking Federation (2012 to 2014). In 2011 he was appointed chairman of the International Banking Federation (IBFed) in London and as from January 2013 he was also appointed as president of the board of EURIBOR.
