Helen Samuels is president and international director of the Mexcalibur Project and youth projects coordinator of Ecovillage Huehuecoyotl in Tepoztlán, Morelos, Mexico. The Mexcalibur programs specialize in non-formal education and community building by creating bridges between youth and adults, and fostering youth created projects. Ms. Samuels has twenty years of experience in planning special events to raise public awareness and participation in matters of environment, a nuclear-free world, children’s rights, an end to racism, and the promotion of art and cultural expression as a form of healing and human evolution. She worked for ten years in close collaboration with the children, youth, and elders of the Azteca-Chichimeca Kalpullis (traditional schools) and twenty years as an advocate of the preservation of indigenous cultural rights in the United States and Mexico. Ms. Samuels is co-founder and international director of Earth Celebrations 2000, a non-governmental organization that focuses on creating partnerships with children and youth. She is also a fellow of ASHOKA Innovators for the Public, and a youth development facilitator.
