Biography:
Michael DAXNER is professor of sociology and president emeritus of the University of Oldenburg, Germany. From 2003 to 2004, he served as part of the advisory mission to the Minister of Education in Afghanistan. He served as the principal international officer for the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology for the Provisional Self-Government in Kosovo from 2000 to 2002, and subsequently became special counselor to the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) office in Belgrade. Dr. Daxner first started with UNMIK as head of the Department of Education and Science while he was the international administrator of the University of Prishtina. He served as the German delegate to the Council of Europe Committee on Higher Education and Research in 1994 and on the board of the European University Association from 1998 to 2001. He is a member of the board of the Heinrich Boell Academy, has been treasurer of the International Association of University Presidents since 1999, and was a member of the Austrian Council of Universities until 2003. Dr. Daxner holds a Ph.D. in education from the University of Vienna, Austria. He is an alumnus of several symposia of the Universities Project; the planning meeting of the Common Interest Forum in 2003; and the fourth program of the Community College International Study Program, 2004.
