Biography:
Ron Clifton (Chair) is Stetson University associate vice president, and director of the Stetson University Center in Celebration, Florida, responsible for professional development of educators and the use of “best practices” and technology in the classroom. Dr. Clifton's current research focuses on comparative cultural study, the impact of American culture abroad, and the influence of cultural stereotypes on US foreign policy. Prior to his appointment as director of the University Center, Dr. Clifton was an adjunct professor in the American Studies Department of Stetson University. Dr. Clifton is the founder and former director of the American Studies Center of the Salzburg Seminar, where he served from 1994 to 1996. Prior to working for the Seminar, Dr. Clifton spent twenty-five years in the United States Diplomatic Service, serving in Calcutta, New Delhi, Tunis, Dublin, Brussels, London, and Washington. During his career in the diplomatic service, he introduced and automated computer operations in the information and cultural services of many embassies and remodeled and developed several cultural and development centers. Dr. Clifton received a B.A. in history, economics, and political science, and an M.A. in American studies from Stetson University; and an M.A., and Ph.D. in American Civilization and comparative cultural studies from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.
